Ecological washing powder
In this household the washing machine has a holy place. I can not imagine a life without it. I try to use it only when it’s really necesarry beacuse I know it’s bad for the environment. So I try an ecological washing powder with a fresh scent.
Ecover is one of the best known brands. Their detergent smells like lavender (plant based). According to the package I can do twelve washes with the 1.2 kg package. The smell of Ecover is also quite strong if you use less detergent than the prescribed amount. So if your clothes aren’t really dirty you could use less.
Detergent without enzymes
There is much demand for detergent without enzymes. So I wonder why there are enzymes in laundry detergent. Maarten van Oekelen, who works at Ecover gave me a very clear answer. “Although a good washing result without enzymes is possible, with enzymes is easier. They provide an effective disposal of plant and animal stains such as grass, fat, blood and urine stains. Compact detergent (both color and white) and Ecover dishwasher tablets contain enzymes. Only in the United Kingdom and Germany Ecover – due to high demand – sells a detergent without enzymes.
Enzymes are sometimes associated with allergies. However, since the enzymes are surrounded by a protective layer (encapsulated), the exposure is very low. The enzymes will be released during the washing process. Only at high and regular exposure enzymes can cause allergic reactions. “
What is different about ecological detergent?
I think that it’s important that detergent is not only good for washing my clothes, but also for the environment.
Ecological detergent has so many advantages:

- Biodegradable
- Ecological production process
- Better for aquatic life
- Based on plant and mineral elements
And if it is good for the environment, then it is good for us!
