Happy with my Apple and Nokia

I’m an Apple and Nokia fan. So I’m pleased to see that both brands score really good as green electronics. Yesterday Greenpeace published a list with ‘green’ electronics companies. Nokia is in the green zone with Apple and Sony Ericsson right behind. These companies scored best in terms of energy, avoiding poison and taking responsibility for their waste collection and processing equipment.

Apple excels in the elimination of toxins. All units of the company are already free from the harmful materials, PVC and brominated flame retardants. These toxins provide much pollution as the devices are discarded, especially in many developing countries where electronic waste is dumped.

HP is working hard to get into the green zone but right now is still a little behind. They already produced a laptop that is substantially free of toxins and presented two new laptops and a desktop without PVC and brominated flame retardants.

Unfortunately Nintendo and Samsung are on the bottom of the list. They have some work to do!

In the end it’s all about the consumers. We decide how companies produce by choosing not to buy from non-green companies. You’re in charge!
